Reversibles, weight and cut

Game jerseys run 130 to 150gsm polyester micromesh or bird-eye. Bird-eye moves noticeably more air and is the better call for a summer league or an un-airconditioned gym; micromesh takes fine detail in a sublimated print better.

A real reversible is two layers bonded at the binding, not one layer printed on both faces. That matters because a single-layer reversible shows the reverse graphic through the fabric under gym lighting, and the neck and armhole binding is where a cheap one fails first. Ours is bound in a contrast colour so the two sides read as two different kits.

Shorts are cut from 7 to 11 inch inseams on request. The armhole on the jersey is cut wide and dropped slightly, because a tight armhole restricts the shooting motion and is the first thing a player complains about.

Numbering rules

NFHS and NCAA both restrict which numbers are legal: only the digits 0 through 5 may be used in each position, which rules out 6, 7, 8 and 9 in any place. Numbers must be at least 6 inches high on the back and 4 inches on the front, in a solid colour contrasting with the jersey. We flag illegal numbers at the roster stage, before anything is cut, because it is a common and expensive thing to discover after delivery.

Sizing and length

Jersey and short lengths are graded independently, so a tall guard and a short forward can both get a fit that works. Women's teams are cut on a separate block rather than a resized men's pattern.
