Built to be grabbed

Match jerseys run 280 to 320gsm in a tight-weave polyester or poly-cotton. The weight is not for warmth, it is so the fabric does not stretch out permanently the first time someone takes a handful of it.

Shoulder and side seams are reinforced with a double row of stitching and taped where the load is highest. The collar is cut tight and low with a reinforced facing, because a loose collar is a handle and a torn collar ends the jersey.

Hoops and colour blocks are cut and sewn as separate panels rather than printed, so the colour survives abrasion that would wear a print off. That is more work and it is the right way to build the garment.

Training tops are a different animal: lighter, sublimated, and built to be replaced. We would not sell you match-weight fabric for a drill top.

World Rugby and league requirements

World Rugby Law 4 governs player clothing and prohibits anything that could cause injury, including rigid trims and exposed fastenings. Most unions require numbers 1 to 15 on the back at a specified height, with replacements numbered from 16. Sponsor placement on the front and sleeves is usually restricted by the union rather than by World Rugby. Send your union's current kit regulations with the brief and we will build to them.

Sizing for the two fits

Rugby is ordered in two fits: a tight modern match cut and a traditional looser club cut. They are separate patterns and the difference is substantial, so tell us which you want rather than assuming.
