Game sweaters, built to last a season

Game jerseys are 220 to 260gsm air-knit polyester with a heavier shoulder yoke, which is where a hockey sweater takes the most abrasion. The body is cut with a drop tail so it stays down over the pants through a shift.

Fight straps are anchored into the back seam, not tacked onto the lining, because a strap sewn to a lining tears the lining out the first time it is used. If your league requires one, say so at brief stage and it goes into the pattern.

Numbers and crests are tackle twill, stitched down with a zig-zag edge. Twill outlasts the sweater and it is what the sport expects. Practice jerseys are a different proposition: sublimated, lighter, and far cheaper to replace.

Goalie cuts are a separate pattern, wider through the chest and arms with a longer body, and are not a scaled-up skater jersey.

League conventions

Hockey has fewer codified garment rules than football or volleyball, but strong conventions. Most leagues require a number on the back and both sleeves, and many junior and senior leagues mandate a fight strap. Name bars are usually a separate stitched panel so a sweater can be reassigned between seasons. Send your league's equipment document with the brief and we will build to it.

Sizing over equipment

Hockey sizing is driven by pads, not by chest measurement. Youth, junior and senior are separate blocks. Goalie is separate again. Order a size set with the sample where you can, because a sweater that fits in the changing room and binds over shoulder pads is a sweater the player will not wear.
